Loading a Custom MEP Fabrication Database into Revit

Issue

Revit will install with sample fabrication Databases out of the box, but these are very watered down versions of the original generic Databases that ship with the legacy fabrication products - CADmep, ESTmep & CAMduct.

Solution

To load your own custom database into Revit it will need to first be added as a link within any one of the above 3 legacy fabrication products. If this link is not added your database will not be visible within Revit.

Note: This example and screenshots were taken from ESTmep but the steps should be the same for all 3  fab products. 

Important: Ensure that you add the link in the Database within the same year version of the fab product as the version of Revit you require it to be available in.

 

How to Add Link to database

  • Open one of the Fabrication products in the same year version that
  • within the intro screen, click on 'Add Link' at the top of the existing configurationadd_link.png
  • Browse to your database location, Highlight to top most folder and then click the 'Select' buttonadd_link02.png
  • Change the name in the Enter Description dialogue if you wish or leave it as is, click 'OK'
  • Your database along with it's path should now reside in the list under configurations.
  • From here you can open the corresponding Revit version
  • From the Systems tab of the Ribbon, select 'Fabrication Part'...

  • Within the Fabrication Parts dockable window, click 'Settings...' then click the pull down menu for Fabrication Configurations and your Database should now be available to load from the list there.

  • Once loaded you can select the services required to bring into Revit.
  • Click 'OK' and your database fabrication parts from the selected services should now be accessible from the MEP Fabrication Parts dockable window.

TIP: If you don't have one of the legacy fabrication products installed but you do have an AEC collection, be aware that CADmep is part of that collection so you can install that to add the database link in the instructions above.
