Revit failing to launch

A common issue has emerged where Revit (all current versions) fails to open, stalling at the Revit splash screen.
This has been traced to a recent update to Trend Anti-virus (sometime between December 20th 2017 & January 8th 2017).
If Revit is failing to open and you have Trend Anti-virus installed, please contact your system administrator immediately to have them configure/uninstall Trend.
